Getting Your Filling

Having a tooth filled at Tankard Dental is simple and straightforward. Please know that we’ll do everything we can to keep you comfortable. While you might feel nervous initially, we can assure you that your needs will be exceeded.

We'll begin the treatment by applying a desensitising gel onto the gums that are next to the affected tooth or teeth. Then, we'll administer a local anaesthetic that will totally numb the area we're about to fill-don't worry, and the numbness will wear off in just a few short hours.

Next, we’ll clean out the cavity with a small handheld tool. Once we’ve removed it all, we’ll shape a composite white filling that’s colour matched to your tooth and insert it. We’ll then seal the composite with a bright light so that it’s flush with your tooth.

When all is done, you won’t even be able to notice that anything was done to your tooth-it will look entirely natural but feel much better as the pain will be gone. The entire process may take anywhere from 30 minutes to one hour, depending on your unique case.

Removing Metal Fillings

If you don’t currently have a new cavity that needs filling but would like to remove metal fillings (amalgam) that may contain mercury, we’re happy to do so.

We can replace your silver filling in just one visit to the practice with new, advanced white fillings that are more aesthetically pleasing and healthier. If your metal filling has caused your tooth (or teeth) to crack, we can discuss better options, like a porcelain crown, to restore integrity and function to the area.

Sedation Dentistry for Fillings

If you're anxious about visiting our practice for a filling in Mildura, we'll do everything we can to make you comfortable and talk you through the process. If you'd like, you have the option to have your filling done under sedation. With this option, you'll be completely relaxed during the entire quick treatment. You can select between a deeper sleep option with an anaesthetist or choose to have happy gas.
